Sentencing for MJ's doctor

Dr. Conrad Murray was sentenced to four years in prison after being convicted in the murder of pop star Michael Jackson, early in November. Michael Jackson who died just two and a half years ago on June 25, 2009 as a result of an overdose of propofol, a heavy anesthetic used in surgery. Dr. Murray’s trial began in August and after six long weeks, the jury found Dr. Murray guilty. Reactions to the sentencing from the public were generally mixed with the majority being Michael Jackson fans being happy that the doctor was convicted but disappointed that he didn’t receive more time. Charles Hampton, 21 of Greensboro, NC is a student at GTCC, majoring in electronics engineering/crime scene investigation and long time Michael Jackson fan. When asked about how he felt when he heard the news that Michael Jackson died of an overdose, he described his reaction as a “conflicting feeling”. “I was so confused because I didn’t know he had a drug problem but when I found out that it was the doctor’s negligence I was devastated.” He went on to say this about the conviction, “He (Dr. Murray) deserves life in prison or at least more than four years but I don’t think he’ll serve the full four.” The reaction was the same for another man of Greensboro, Redgie Gudger, 28, who was in his car when he heard the announcement of the death of the King of pop. “I was shocked and wasn’t sure about the OD story they were pushing.” Gudger is a Ups sorter and Papa Johns Manager, who also produces and composes musical works for up and coming local artist. “The doctor should’ve gotten more time with his profession, he should’ve been more responsible. The system has been screwed up so I’m not surprised.”
As far as Dr. Murray’s reaction, he doesn’t plan on giving up just yet. According to Access Hollywood, as of Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, Dr. Conrad Murray, filed an appeal in Los Angeles Superior Court over his involuntary manslaughter conviction. In the documents reviewed, so far, Dr. Murray plans to represent his self on this go round. With the release of the article, comments from around the globe came pouring in ranging from people calling him an idiot to those calling Dr. Murray innocent. One commenter even went on to say the doctor shouldn’t have gotten any time and that “he did a favor eliminating a pedophile” - PAT52. Another commenter stated, “I’m interested to see what Murray has to say for himself on the manners. I still believe strongly what his attorney said during the closing statements, that if Michael Jackson wasn’t the patient, this would have never gone to trial.” - This is My Tigersuit, 25, Ontario, Canada. However, the judge of whom administered the sentence described him as a “disgrace to the medical profession” and promptly served him with the maximum sentence. Regardless of the many names and occupations the public wants to bestow upon Dr. Conrad Murray, it is evident that he will always be known as the man who killed the late Michael Jackson.
